Can I recover from Emotional Trauma?
Yes, Yes, Yes! You don’t have to live in a tortured state of mind anymore.
The functions of the amygdala, hippocampus, and the prefrontal cortex that are affected by trauma can also be reversed. The brain is ever-changing, and recovery is possible. PTSD is NOT a life sentence.
Many of my beautiful clients who have been struggling with the effects of traumas, especially childhood traumas which have created PTSD, Complex PTSD, Dissociative PTSD which have manifested from a diverse range of events:
- Bullying – childhood or work related.
- Community Violence
- Complex Trauma
- Disasters
- Early Childhood Trauma including but not only childhood molestation
- Intimate Partner Violence
- Medical Trauma
- Physical Abuse
- And of course, War Zone
You see, when your life is in imminent danger, your fear triggers a fight-or-flight response that floods your body with adrenaline, so that you can respond to the threat. Once the threat has passed you may experience emotional aftershocks.
PTSD involves lingering negative feelings that can result from any adverse experience—getting fired, the end of a relationship, chronic illness, or even just a time when you feel like you failed at something—and that limit a person in any way. These feelings can include fear, doubt, panic, avoidance, anger, hypervigilance, irritability, sadness, shame, vulnerability, distrust, and more.
There are no limitations to what can cause PTSD, yet even in today’s modern times of self-help, therapy, and emotional understanding, health professionals mostly reserve the term PTSD for life-or-death experiences. This ignores the numerous incidents that alter (for the worse) the way someone experiences life. Regardless of its cause or scope, PTSD negatively influences the choices we make and changes the very core of who we are.
One of the most powerful ways to heal PTSD is to create new experiences to serve as positive reference points in your life. This is elegantly and easily accomplished through the wondrous combination of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), Hypnosis and the imagination. The overlapping of wonderfully happy and joyful memories while in a trance state (highly suggestible and relaxed) can achieve extraordinary and complete dissociation from the event/traumas, enabling complete peace and healing from the past.
Case Study
One of my wonderful clients came to me after only 1 session completely freed from the pain and anguish of the past events. Being A young man in his 20’s, I was shocked to hear that he felt he would not make it to the end of the year without my help. I remember the complete state of fear and inability to continue functioning when he first presented for his initial session. He needed his partner to be with him, to ensure that he felt safe to speak with me. After about 10minutes, his partner was able to wait outside the treatment room and as little as 30minutes later, he almost skipped out of the room! Smiling and a look of disbelief on his happy face.
In seeing him for his follow up, he told me that there was no anxiety, no panic, no connection to the past traumas. In fact, he’d forgiven and connected with the involved family members – something that he could never believe was possible.
So…is it possible to recover from emotional trauma? With the right help and support…absolutely.
